Last Sunday, my 4 year old Darby and I were watching The Amazing Race. The contestants were in a very poor part of India and some comments were made about little children eating out of garbage cans. Darby picked up on this and made a very interesting statement…”those kids have to eat garbage because their god doesn’t give them food and water like our God gives us.” Yeah, she said that. I responded with…”yes our God does give us food and water. We are very blessed. Our God takes care of us.” The she said the most amazing thing…”their god can’t do the MAGIC things our God does.” How profound and simple. Our God does do the most amazing and unexplainable things. He truly is magical. I went on to explain to Darby that our God would help the people in India if they would ask and believe in Him. I also told her that it is our job to tell them and others that our God wants so badly to help them and do amazing and unexplainable things for them and through them. The world needs to know there is only ONE GOD who is amazing and magical. We should tell the world how awesome He is!!
Until today, I didn’t realize just how true my last post was. God has been working on my behalf in a way I couldn’t have imagined. Isaiah 64:4 is so true!!! I know God and He knows me. I knew that I had to trust Him and as much as I have wanted to take matters into my own hands, I just knew that I had to wait on the Lord and see what He would do. He was working on my behalf and I am amazed at what He has done for me!
I was reminded today that if God can take care of the little things than surely he can take care of the Big Stuff. I have watched God over the lat week work small miracles to bless and protect me when I was oblivious to what was really going on.
I have been so worried about a lot of the big stuff in my life and whether or not any of it will work out. Sweating about what plan of action to take has been exhausting Brook and I. But you know, Jesus said in Matthew chapter 6 “if your Father in heaven takes care of the birds and the flowers why wouldn’t he take care of you all the more.” (paraphrase) And it is true. If God is handling the details of small things like birds and flowers, feeding them and clothing them, I know my big crisis stuff is at the front of His attention.
I think because our vision is so limited we don’t see the work that has to be done on our behalf. Because we don’t see the end of all things, we don’t see the miracles behind every moment made for us.
Isaiah 64:4 For from the days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, nor has any eye seen a God besides you, who acts on behalf of the one who waits for Him.
So I guess the only thing to do is rest and let God work it all out. He will do a better job anyway.
Once again Todd did an excellent job with the photos. It’s so nice to have friends that make you look cooler than you are. Check out his work, he is definitely a pro.
This is the first time I have used Logic to record a music project and I have to say I was very impressed. Because this is also the first time I have handled every part of the recording process (I engineered, mixed, and mastered everything in Logic) and I use Mac computers pretty much exclusively now, I decided to break away from the traditional Pro Tools app used in studios.
The first thing that I really like was the ability to choose the audio interface I wanted to use. If I am not mistaken you are pretty much tied to DigiDesign stuff if you want to use Pro Tools. There are some great interfaces out there that are clean and translate the tone of the music quite well.
The second thing I really liked was the overall ease of getting everything set up and how quickly I was able to get straight to recording. I had no trouble using and understanding most every function I needed to use. I am still learning the editing side of Logic but all in all a very easy to use recording software.
I was also impressed with the ease in which plugins could be used and added. I used some T Racks stuff and I thought the plugins built into Logic are pretty good as well. You could easily get a great sound using Logic Plugins only.
I have always been a firm believer that unless you have good tones coming out of your instruments you will be hard pressed to get a decent recording regardless of the software you are using. It is great when you find a program that translates the music well, is easy to use, and gives you a platform for endless possibilities. Once again Apple has won my trust. I hope to be recording and mixing many projects to come using Logic on a Mac.
Dan Larson played drums on the new record - CONFIDENCE. You can see Dan most weekends @ The River.
I wanted to express why this album is so important to me and why I think God wanted me to record it now.
It is really good to be focusing on music again. It has been about 5 years since the last project with the guys from Edison Switch. I have been learning and working on new aspects of life and really enjoying every minute of the detour. But now I am back at it and ready to pour my heart into something God so graciously blessed me with a talent for. I have always felt right at home playing and writing music. It feels good to be back in it and I am excited to see where God will lead it.
